Requirements
Must:
- At least 8 years of professional experience as a software engineer / cloud engineer in complex environments.
- Proven, hands-on experience with .NET and Microsoft Azure in production-grade systems.
- Demonstrable experience with complex, real-time or near real-time architectures, preferably in telematics, IoT or data-intensive SaaS platforms.
- Strong experience with Kubernetes, Azure Cosmos DB, Event Hub, Fabric and other managed services.
- Experience with AWS is a strong plus.
- Proven track record in:
- Performance optimisation
- Cloud cost reduction
- Designing and executing both greenfield projects and legacy migrations
- Experience acting as tech lead or team lead, with the ability to guide senior engineers.
- Living and working in the Netherlands for at least 5 years.
- No visa sponsorship – this role is intended for candidates already eligible to work in the Netherlands.
- Excellent communication skills; able to clearly explain complex technical topics to non-technical stakeholders.
- Dutch speaking candidates are preferred, though for non-Dutch candidates we expect a comprehension level of at least A2 basic understanding in Dutch. Professional fluency in English is required.
- Business-minded: understands how technology choices impact customers, costs and long-term strategy.
Responsibilities
- Design, implement and evolve scalable, high-performance cloud architectures for real-time telematics platforms.
- Develop and maintain backend services using .NET within a modern Azure-based environment.
- Work with event-driven and data-intensive architectures using Azure Cosmos DB, Event Hub and Fabric.
- Actively improve system performance, reliability and scalability.
- Lead and contribute to greenfield projects as well as migration trajectories from legacy systems to modern cloud architectures.
- Identify and implement structural performance improvements.
- Drive cloud cost optimisation and cost-reduction initiatives without compromising quality or availability.
- Make architectural trade-offs transparent and well-argued.
- Provide technical leadership by setting architectural direction, reviewing designs and code, and challenging engineering decisions across teams.
- Coach, guide and align engineers across a mixed setup of in-house and remote development teams, with a strong focus on effective collaboration with outsourced partners.
- Align closely with Product Management to translate business needs into robust technical solutions.
- Support and advise the Management Team on technology-related topics, risks and opportunities.
- Work closely with system administration and IT/security on infrastructure, availability and compliance.
- Contribute to topics typically seen at Director-of-Technology level, such as budgeting and investment considerations, ISO 27001 alignment and security awareness, WBSO-related technical documentation and substantiation.
- Act as an AI enabler: identifying pragmatic ways to apply AI within our products and processes.
- Act as an inspirator and frontrunner within the organisation, helping to raise the technical maturity level.
