Requirements
Must:
- 3+ years managing engineering teams within a Java (or similar) environment
- 8+ years of software engineering experience in a fast-paced tech setting
- Full professional proficiency in English
- Skilled in coaching, mentoring, and developing engineering talent
- Motivated by solving challenges in distributed systems with high scalability and reliability demands
- Technically strong in software engineering using Java in a distributed environment
- Experienced in defining, implementing, and monitoring performance KPIs
- Able to lead technical projects in a fast-paced, high-growth environment
- A clear communicator who can articulate timelines and technical decisions to all audiences
- Willing to travel when needed to align with colleagues or merchant teams
Responsibilities
- Lead, grow, and mentor a team of engineers owning Adyens core accounting platform.
- Guide the design and implementation of scalable, reliable distributed systems using Core Java, web services, queueing frameworks, REST APIs, and SQL/PostgreSQL.
- Partner with product and platform teams to design new services with strong reliability and performance guarantees.
- Balance long-term technical investments with feature delivery, making clear, data-driven decisions.
- Build a culture centered on autonomy, ownership, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Set clear team and individual goals aligned with engineering and product strategy.
- Improve operational excellence through automation, observability, and reducing manual toil.
- Recruit and develop engineering talent that thrives in a fast-moving environment.
